Gunfire Near Downtown Library

A barrage of gunfire rang out near the downtown public library at 10th and Felix Wednesday morning.  Fortunately nobody was hurt.

St Joseph Police arrested 40-year-old Cortez Villanueva on a class-A felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon.  Villanueva was booked into the Buchanan County Jail under a 10-thousand dollar bond.

Commander Jim Connors says Villanueva suspect lists a Kansas City, Missouri address.

The shots were fired shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the Library Square parking lot under the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizen Center.  Connors says officers were able to take the suspect into custody without serious incident.  They also recovered a weapon and several shell casings.

An investigation continues.
